One of my favorite foods from childhood, I have to have it shipped to where I am now. I have experienced the rancid flavor before -- the noodles are fried and will go bad if stored for a while at room temperature. I put all the boxes I'm not going to eat immediately in the freezer then take them out as needed. Tastes just like I remembered.

To everyone buying boxes and finding them rancid. If you aren't aware, they had a fire years back. They couldn't replace the friers with high temp ones like they had. This caused them to change oil that goes bad quicker. They probably should have updated their boxes with shorter use by date. Luckily for me, I live nearby and by bags of noodles fresh and binge eat chow mein and use all the noodles before they go bad. But this is the reason why originally they never had a problem with selling the boxes in stores, but now they do. Did the higher heat friers cause the fire, and it was a necessary regulation the UL limits the temp?

We buy the noodles fresh from the factory in Fall River. They’re always fresh and delicious. If you’re buying them in a box from the market, from what I’ve been told, they’re supposed to be refrigerated but the markets refuse to use refrigerated space for the noodles. You have to check the date. If they’re fresh buy up a few boxes and put them in the freezer.

I see a ton of posts here talking about how the noodles taste differently, or how the oil goes rancid due to high heat. First of all. NEVER buy the box of noodles at the market ! Trust me I learned this the hard way. These markets buy their boxes by the pallets in bulk. So it expires before you know it. I learned from the people who work at the place itself. If you keep the noodles in the refrigerator. They'll last for a long long time. I almost gave up on them. I would buy a 5 lb bag a month. Half way through they started tasting horrible. Massive horrible aftertaste in the noodles. Started keeping the big bag in the fridge. Never had the issue again. Trust me. Put the noodles in the fridge. An they'll stay fresh, I promise ! If you freeze them. They'll stay fresh for an entire year. Yes a year ! Had to believe, but it's true. Good luck everyone. Enjoy your chow mein again folks.
